When life shakes you — whether through heartbreak, loss, abuse, betrayal, or a major transition — it can feel like parts of you get scattered. Your confidence slips. Your identity blurs. Your voice gets quieter. And you wake up one day thinking:
“I don’t recognise myself anymore.”
If that’s you… I want you to know this:
✨ You are not broken — you are becoming.
✨ There is life after the ashes.
✨ And your identity is not lost — only waiting to be reclaimed.
This blog is an invitation to begin that journey.
Below are five steps to help you reconnect with who you are, rebuild with intention, and rise with clarity — based on the core principles inside The Power to Reclaim book and workbook.
✨ 1. Reflect with Honesty: “Where am I truly now?”
Reclaiming your identity begins with understanding your present self, not the version of you shaped by fear, survival mode, or old wounds.
Ask yourself:
-
Who am I right now — emotionally, mentally, spiritually?
-
What am I carrying that isn’t mine?
-
When did I last feel like myself?
-
What do I need more of? Less of?
You don’t need perfect answers.
Just honesty.
Reflection restores awareness.
Awareness restores direction.
Try this journaling prompt:
“What does the most honest version of me want to say today?”
Write without judging yourself.
✨ 2. Release What No Longer Serves You
Unreleased pain becomes identity.
Unspoken emotions become armour.
Unprocessed memories become walls.
To reclaim who you are, you must release what you are not.
Release the guilt that wasn’t yours.
Release the shame that was inflicted.
Release the fear that kept you silent.
Release the version of you that was built for survival.
Here are gentle release practices:
-
Write everything you’re holding and tear the paper
-
Pray or meditate through each emotion
-
Speak aloud: “This no longer belongs to me.”
-
Allow yourself to feel without apologising
Releasing is not forgetting.
It is unburdening your identity so you can breathe again.
✨ 3. Rebuild with Intention
Healing is not only about letting go —
It’s about rebuilding who you want to become.
Ask yourself:
-
Who am I becoming?
-
What values do I want to stand on now?
-
What identity do I want to reclaim or rebuild?
-
What kind of woman do I feel called to grow into?
This stage is where transformation becomes visible.
Try this exercise:
Write five identity statements:
“I am a woman who…”
Complete it five times.
Let it reflect your becoming, not your past.
Rebuilding allows you to step into a version of yourself that feels whole, not wounded.
✨ 4. Surround Yourself With Safe Support
You were never meant to heal alone.
One of the greatest lies trauma tells you is that
“no one understands”
or
“you are too much.”
You are not too much —
You are becoming more.
Support is essential:
-
A trusted friend or mentor
-
A women’s group
-
A counsellor or support worker
-
A faith community
-
A safe sisterhood
Healing accelerates when you are seen, heard, and held.
You don’t need a crowd —
You just need safe.
✨ 5. Declare Your Worth & Walk Forward
At some point in your healing, you must make a decision:
“I choose myself again.”
Declare it aloud.
Write it.
Affirm it.
Hold it.
Your identity is not defined by what hurt you,
but by who you choose to become now.
Here’s your affirmation for today:
✨ “I am worthy of healing. I am worthy of peace. I am worthy of becoming.”
Walking forward doesn’t mean you have every step figured out —
it means you refuse to stay where your pain left you.
🌸 A Final Note From My Heart
If you’re reading this, it means you’re rebuilding —
and that in itself is courage.
I wrote The Power to Reclaim because I know what it feels like to lose yourself.
And I also know what it looks like to rise again.
Your story is not over.
Your identity is not destroyed.
Your becoming is just beginning.
Let this be your reminder:
✨ You are not broken — you are becoming.
